Joy is a Kentucky-born Filipina theatre artist. Her commitment to social justice and aiding in the liberation for those historically oppressed is at the forefront of her work.
Joy serves primarily as a dialect and voice coach to theatre companies across the US, Broadway professionals and award-winning actors. You may also find her serving as a cultural consultant or assistant directing on productions as well as teaching in drama training programs across the globe. In addition to Joy's work in the theatre and entertainment field, she is also an experienced executive presentation and communication coach for international corporate professionals.
She holds an MFA in Voice Studies from the University of London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, where her dissertation earned her a mark of Distinction. She earned her BFA in Acting from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music.
Her research interests include identity, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive coaching and teaching strategies in theatre and drama training programs. Her article "Coaching Asian Actors and Asian Accents with Cultural Sensitivity" won the VSR Rocco Dal Vera Graduate Research Award. Her book chapter for Stages of Reckoning titled, “Societal Othering of Asian Americans and its Perpetuation Through Casting” is now available, thanks to Routledge’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) series. You may find these articles and more on the Published Works page.
Joy was previously based in London and New York. She now lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband and daughter.
